What We Collect and Why
When you write to us through the contact form, we keep your name, your email address and your message, to answer you.
When you sign up to our newsletter, we keep your name and your email address, to send you news, project updates and invitations to participate in our activities. You confirm your sign-up by email before anything is sent to you.
Legal Basis for Processing
The processing of your data is based on your consent, obtained explicitly through your registrations or communication forms for any of our channels, platforms, activities and programs.
Where Your Data Is Kept, and Who Processes It
Messages sent through the contact form are kept in the Athens Institute's own system, in a database in Frankfurt, Germany (Supabase), readable only by the Institute's administrators, and sent on to info@athens.institute through Brevo, our email service, based in France.
Newsletter sign-ups are kept by Brevo, which sends our letters. This website is served from a server in Germany (Hetzner).
We do not sell or distribute your data to third parties.
Cookies and Analytics
This website uses no cookies and no analytics, and loads nothing from other services in your browser.
Data Retention
We retain your personal data as long as necessary to fulfill the purposes outlined in this policy, unless a longer retention period is required or permitted by law. Newsletter sign-ups are kept until you unsubscribe.
Consent
By using our forms and registering for any of our programs, you are providing your explicit consent for us to process your personal data for the specified purposes. You have the right to withdraw your consent at any time, without affecting the lawfulness of processing based on consent before its withdrawal. Every letter we send carries a link to unsubscribe.
Your Rights
You have the right to access, correct, delete, or limit the processing of your personal data. You also have the right to object to processing and the right to data portability. Requests to exercise these rights can be directed to the contact details provided above.
International Data Transfers
Your data is stored in the European Union. Supabase is a company based in the United States; where any of your data could be reached from outside the EU, we ensure adequate protections are in place in compliance with GDPR requirements.
Security Measures
We implement appropriate technical and organizational measures to protect your personal data against unauthorized or unlawful processing, accidental loss, destruction, or damage.
Complaints
If you have any concerns about how we process your data, you are entitled to lodge a complaint with the supervisory authority responsible for data protection in your country.
Changes to This Policy
We may update this policy periodically. We encourage you to review this policy regularly to stay informed about how we are protecting your data.
